As an employer, it is your responsibility to ensure that staff are Smart Serve certified and that the certificate is valid. A record of certification should be kept on file.
You can verify the authenticity of the Smart Serve certificate by following these tips:
1. Access the Online Account: Confirm that the employee has access to their Individual Online Account on the Smartserve.ca website.
2. Check eCertificate: Ask the employee to login to their online account and go to the “My Results” tab. From here, they can download and view their eCertificate (digital certificate). Ask the employee to download the eCertificate and email it to you. Check the expiry date of the certificate.
3. Match Personal Information: Ensure that the certificate name matches their government issued photo identification.
4. Inspect the eCertificate: If provided with a physical copy of an eCertificate, ensure that,
· issue date of the certificate matches the first 6 digits of the certificate ( yy-mm-dd)
· font type is uniform throughout the certificate
Remember, if requested, employees must provide proof of their Smart Serve certificate, and the name on the certificate must match their ID. If you have any doubts about the authenticity of a certificate, you can contact Smart Serve directly for further assistance.
